Special Notice 2:
G.C.E. O/L English Literature – ‘Appreciation of English Literary Texts'
According to a decision taken by the ministry of Education, Literary Appreciation in English will be a subject examined at G.C.E.O/L from the 2008 examination onwards, being a subject in the second basket of subjects in category 3.2.2. The students can select one subject from each of the three baskets mentioned in Circular No. 2006/09 dated 07-03-2006. Circular No. 2007/06 dated 07.03.2007 had been issued subsequently to correct an error in the earlier one which inadvertently states having Literature for Grades 6 – 9. English Literature is a subject only from Grade 10 onwards. This was corrected but nothing else regarding Literature was changed.
Thus students can offer one subject from Basket No. 3.2.2., where Literary Appreciation in English too is included there. The Ministry of Education has sent another directive to schools dated 04-01-2008 asserting the above fact again as there had been misinterpretation of the circulars in the schools. A prototype paper will be released to assist teachers and students as to the format of the paper.
